- What’s your number one piece of networking advice?
- Three basic steps:
- Be a good person.
- Don’t brush people off because they don’t look or sound the part.
- Provide value up-front.
- Go into each of your interactions looking to help someone, because it comes back around.
- Be intentional about your networking efforts.
- Get really clear on who it is you’re trying to meet.
- How to provide value to people.
- Why you’re looking to create those relationships.
- The best connections don’t happen by chance.
- The more intentional you get, the more you have to be balanced and kind.
- Where do you typically go to be around other people?
- His networking strategy has changed over time.
- When he was just getting started:
- Get intentional about the type of person you want to learn from.
- Figure out the value you can provide to them.
- He didn’t have enough capital.
- He came out of a relationship with a low-integrity mentor, and needed to connect with someone high-integrity.
- Find someone who is the perfect mentor and door-opener for you.
- Over time he’s become extremely selective about the events he goes to.
- The high-investment events tend to have the best attendees.
- He’s really host-focused.
